Blackwoods gets fit with ‘Live Life Get Active’
Obesity has become the single biggest threat to public health in Australia. Direct costs relating to obesity issues totalled $58 billion in 2013 and being overweight is the number cause of heart disease, stroke and diabetes, as well as impacting the lifestyles of families and individuals. Blackwoods has a strong commitment to a motivated, fit and healthy team, and along with our partners uvex™ and Camelbak™, ran a free 40-week, five days a week, community wellbeing and fitness program conducted by experienced and trained professionals from Live Life Get Active.
The 'Live Life Get Active' program seeks to link fitness and nutrition to motivation and the community. The program involved free daily sessions, with a personal trainer taking small groups through an entire wellbeing and fitness program designed specifically to make personal lives and coming to work more fulfilling. The program is headed up by renowned athlete, mother and businesswoman, Olympic athlete and dual Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Jane Flemming.
All those who pre-registered to participate received a Surf Life Active T-Shirt, a Camelbak™ sports drink bottle and pair of uvex™ 100 per cent UV protective glasses, as well as the expertise and motivation to increase their fitness and energy levels, regardless of their starting levels. All participants were able to monitor their progress online via a dedicated site.
This program, held in Canberra coincided with Blackwoods Canberra celebrating 50 years of supplying and supporting local business and the community.
